What Are The Benefits Of Veneers For Improving Your Smile?

Have you been struggling to understand whether veneers are the right treatment for restoring your smile?

Maybe you’ve seen articles on Turkey Teeth in recent months, and been put off veneers? We’re here to tell you that veneers are a viable way to restore your smile when you visit a reputable dentist for your treatment.

If you’ve looked up ‘veneers Heston’ online to no avail, don’t worry. We’ll be breaking down the benefits of veneers and comparing them to composite bonding, helping you to choose which cosmetic treatment best suits you.

What Are The Benefits Of Veneers For Improving Your Smile?

They Whiten and Brighten Teeth

Whilst teeth whitening treatments such as Enlighten and Boutique can improve your tooth shade by up to 16 shades, veneers can go even further.

If you’re looking for a Hollywood white tooth shade, veneers are the best option compared with teeth whitening and composite bonding.

Porcelain is an almost identical match for tooth enamel, possessing very similar light-reflecting properties. It is considered a premium material in dentistry, outperforming composite and ceramic in its capacity to look like natural tooth structure.

So, we highly recommend porcelain veneers as the way forward if aesthetic is your number one priority for your new smile. However, if you’re looking for a simpler treatment experience, you may wish to opt for composite bonding.

They’re Highly Resistant To Staining

If you’re someone who regularly enjoys teeth-staining food and drink, veneers are a suitable option, especially compared to composite bonding.

Like your natural tooth enamel, composite bonding resins are susceptible to staining and losing their translucency. The porcelain used for veneers, however, is much more resistant.

Porcelain is a non-porous material; it does not absorb teeth-staining food and drink, giving your teeth more protection against discolouration. This isn’t to say that you should go drinking bucketfuls of coffee and tea every single day (porcelain isn’t invincible)! But, if you’re seeking a smile restoration treatment that will keep your teeth whiter for longer, veneers are your best option.

Long-Lasting Results (No Need For Regular Treatment Sessions)

Porcelain veneers are a long-term answer to smile restoration.

You can expect composite bonding to last in the region of 3-7 years, whilst veneers can last for between 10-15 years.

It’s true that the composite bonding process is much less involved than with veneers, but you will need to commit to repeat treatments (as many as every 3 years), especially if you regularly consume teeth-staining food and drink. Once the composite has lost its translucency, it will stand as an outlier compared with your neighbouring teeth. So, having the resins replaced regularly will keep that natural look.

With veneers, you won’t have to worry about this happening as often, as porcelain is a significantly stronger material than dental composite. This said, we still recommend protecting your porcelain veneers by:

  • Wearing a mouthguard during contact sports.
  • Refraining from biting on anything that isn’t food (ice cubes and pencils are the most common culprits and will chip your teeth!)
  • Attending routine appointments with the dentist and hygienist.
  • Brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day. Dental decay and wear can still occur, even if you have veneers!

Natural-Looking Outcomes

If you’re looking for natural results with veneers, this is entirely possible.

The most common request we get is ‘I’d like a natural-looking smile, but I don’t want to look like I’ve had cosmetic dental work done.’

Our cosmetic dentists can achieve this by using the following techniques:

  • Facial anatomy: examining your face shape and mouth shape to establish how to balance the tooth width and length ratio of each individual tooth.
  • Shade: considering your hair colour and the whites of your eyes to establish a shade for your veneer. For a natural-looking smile, your veneers should not be whiter than the whites of your eyes. Our dentists understand how to find the shade of porcelain that emulates the translucency of real tooth enamel.
  • Natural shade match: If you are not electing to have a full smile makeover with veneers, your dentist will match your veneer to the same shade as your existing tooth shade.
  • Thickness: thickness will be considered prior to veneer placement. Your dentist will use minimally-invasive etching techniques to remove a portion of tooth enamel. The individual veneers are then placed over the top. Once in place, they will be the same thickness as any untreated natural teeth and sit harmoniously with your lip shape.
  • Placement: your dentist will place your veneer, making sure they are not compacted against neighbouring teeth. This will make flossing and brushing feel natural and protect your dental health in the process.

Expect Nothing Less Than Excellence at The Smile Studios

Here at The Smiles Studios, we treat veneer creation as a craft. We are driven by your tastes and expectations of treatment, and every veneer case is unique.

Unfortunately, not all veneers are created equally. When poor materials and fitting techniques are used, they can very easily appear fake, and have a detrimental impact on your confidence (which is the opposite of how veneers should be making you feel!)

We work closely with our dental technicians, who create your veneer according to specifications from you the patient, and your dentist.

Your veneer treatment is whatever you wish it to be. If you’re seeking the classic Hollywood look using the whitest shade of porcelain, this is achievable. Equally, if you would like a more natural-looking outcome that’s more in-keeping with your facial features, we can carry this out for you.
